Soon Like Crows poem by pd lyons

Soon Like Crows

and would I know
the winter
still sliding down
silvering the window
soft whispers
smoke secrets
the kitchen fire
and all those winter fires gone before
each ghost arrives upon the gale
welcomed here beside the hearth
each breath of my own
rare and gifted by such drifters
visible in smoke
audible in flame
never alone

wrote this the first winter having moved back to Ireland from the states. we were living in Galway a small town called Barna on Galway Bay. Galway Review was kind enough to publish this along with four others. for me the ghosts of Ireland like those of all places are busiest during the winter months.

i went this way before – by pd lyons

galway bay

Galway bay

I went this way before

same green

same rain

and grey horses backed against the wind

no matter what happens in the big world

the grass green

the rain falls down

and when it doesn’t

sure we wont be here anyway anymoreDSC_8796

“Costello Lodge”, located in Casla, Connemara, Co. Galway or “The Lodge” as it is effectionately known, forms part of DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonards first Summer auction of the year and is expected to attract huge interest due to both it’s keen price and it’s interesting and varied history. Amongst this impressive and vast property’s previous owners, is the infamous Mr Joseph Bruce Ismay, Chairman of the White Star Line, the company that owned RMS Titanic!

Morgan Poem by pd lyons

the Dogs Bay empty on a grey day

curves a wide scythe of sand

mimicked slopes of rocky hills dissolve again in low grey sky.

the Dogs Bay rings silver laughter a treasure of pearls

beautiful daughter darts like a needle between sea and sand

strangers no choice, stopped in their tracks , infected smiles.

not since the Indian Ocean where she learned to walk

not since Cape Cod where she learned her heritage

not since Cape Breton where she learned of treasure

has she now Connemara remembered

give it a few more days
