The Israel Of My Heart, by pd lyons

The Israel of my heart

stares like a stranger

sometimes from doorways almost in the rain

sometimes through haloed moonless streets

unable to make peace

unable to articulate

engaged none the less

the Israel of my heart

flows like tears

through my each and every step

how can I meet the darkness all alone?

it is through weeping not muscle

such  chains are broken

may all who journey remember

may all who journey remember

Aengus Gets It Right, by pd lyons; as published by the legendary

Aengus Gets It Right

breathe in the fever
perfect wood wind violin
single note shape sigh release
weightless tongues
sweet water curls up
fine black pearls clung
each finger brought to your rowan mouth
until unable to bear it any more
laugh and plunge
this time even deeper

where are you singing?
where are you dancing?
tonight in open spaces of my heart
memories keeping us together or apart
when life is only looking back
trading places with the dark
wisdom drawn with silver sticks
without books without roots
unspeakable night this time
I will not medicate fear
I will not dogma soul
I will wide open in the dark

In Irish mythology, Óengus (Old Irish), Áengus (Middle Irish), or Aengus or Aonghus (Modern Irish), is a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann and probably a god of love, youth and poetic inspiration. He is also called Aengus Óg (“Aengus the young”), Mac ind Óg (“son of the young”), Mac Óg (“young son”) or Maccan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aengus.

The Song of Wandering Aengus by W.B. Yeats (1865–1939) is one of my favourite poems, and of which this piece does refer to.  you can find the full text of Yeats work, along with another of my own relating to Yeats at this link https://pdlyons.wordpress.com/2014/06/15/somewhere-still-by-pd-lyons-for-donald-lyons-with-regards-to-wb-yeats/

Riding With An Angel In The Pale Moonlight, by pd lyons from Old Songs

Riding With An Angel In The Pale Moonlight

so light little queenie
I know you know the way
soon now little darling
dawn will light our way
soon now little darling
home will be in sight

I know it’s been a long time
I know you worked your heart
soon now little queenie
we’ll ride out from this dark
soon now little queenie
we’ll see the morning light

I can’t ever tell you
I don’t know any words you’d now
but you’re my own true heart girl
you’re my own true one
in darkness I trust you
in darkness no fear
I know you know the way dear
I know you always find the light

( For Jeanie

All those nights
sat silent
Smoky wine coloured
full tide
my veins
my heart
my own )

back in the dream time i was working with horses. Jeanie was the first horse that was truly mine. she was a beautiful liver chestnut Morgan mare with a tendency towards madness. Eventualy she put me in hospital with a punctured lung via cracked ribs and fractured collar-bone – but that’s another story. One evening we did get a bit lost in the thick of a Berkshire woodland. Eventually i just gave her, her head and she brought us out of it. In dreams the horse represents the dreamers heart. She was my wild reckless self-destructive wonderful heart. this would have been written early 1990’s

Dead Can Dance Yoga, music by dead can dance, poem by pd lyons

dead can dance – How Fortunate the Man with None:

Dead Can Dance Yoga

sometimes when quiet winter
bright enough with silver
opened windows
  incense shadows
a way of moving
without effort
a way of breath
without effort
a way without ache
karmicly non-existent
freely offered
 equally without effort

a time of true light
a time of true nature
where now the thousand years of darkness?
