J.C. Bluez, by pd lyons

J.C. Bluez

when Jesus was a little baby boy
sittin’ on his mommas knee
he said dear momma
(I) wish these people wouldn’t want to crucify me

now Jesus turned the water into wine
could make the blind man see
but he couldn’t change anything at all
when they hung him on that tree

so if you get to thinking
you gonna change the way things are
just remember the lesson of ol J.C.
before you even try

The Lover Of Wisdom

He helped in the kitchen

while she was away.

One night he was worried about the wine

her father noticed, told him

not to worry

they said it was the best place they’d been to

that they were glad to be here.

besides it was the second bottle they’d ordered.

It was then he grabbed her father’s hand, said

Are you my friend? Are you!

The towering man with black mustache

in a well-worn greasy apron said

Always. I am your friend always!

It was evening when she came back.

He was sorting pots from the green house

packing them into the jeep

parked at the top of the driveway

when they pulled in

BMW convertible dark blue with tan leather

He did not want to meet her friends.

Afraid they’d hear the beating of his heart

he stayed on the other side of the jeep

pretending to be too busy

waiting for her to come to him.

But after their long good-byes,

she didn’t.

He walked around  saw her walking

down the hill with her bags

he thought – she has not returned to me at all then.

   Shortly later she came back.

Sat with him on the grass

her black hair veiling them

as hunched together head to head

he opened what she gave him

wrapped in white tissues

a ball of crystal inside a ball of alabaster.

I missed you so much he said.

Are you brave enough to let me shave you? Come on,”

she said “Let me! I want to!”

He had not shaved since she left

and her creamy skin could not abide  a whiskered face.

Today Is Tuesday ( sometimes in this writing life 2 )by pd lyons

Today Is Tuesday (Sometimes in writing Life 2)

have to cut back on the computer
it’s pretty bad
hours of my life a day sucked away
nothing done
neck aches wrist aches
contacts dry fall out of my eyes like pieces of glass

from now on check in once a week
cater to those fan-based minions
socialize with those multitudinous faces
post a plog upon the blogs
once a week
maybe Mondays

got dressed drove into town
picked up a case of Lebanese red
two bottles Tyrconnel
litre of un-oaked Chardonnay for cooking
stack of legal sized pads,
and a few pounds Italian coffee

Today is Tuesday
I have liberation to celebrate.

Listened to your story, by pd lyons, from Old Songs

Listened to your story
heard it between the sounds
rain beat highway
last freight train car

followed in the valleys
touched it in the dark

you always are my darling
you always are my heart

now I’m standing in the kitchen
popped a Bordeaux cork
(I’m ) swigging form the bottle
cause I cant see you no more

bright sunshine sapphires shimmer on the lake
and its just outside my window
and its just a million miles away.

Wilkes Barre Super Power, by pd lyons

Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania

At the liquor store. Clos du val and vodka in tow. Automatic door. Woman standing on the other side. Wants to get in. Waits for us to come out. They never work for me she says. What ? The doors. Oh says I maybe they get stuck . No she says  automatic doors never work for me. Watch.  Stood out side and the doors closed and she tried but couldn’t get back out. Wow I say amazed. So that’s your super power.  Yeah. But not very useful. She waved and went to the shop for alcohol. Back at the hotel told Michelle all about it. No she didn’t think it would be a good project for research. But i kept thinking about that woman and what was in her body that could stun those automatic doors.

happy birthday little raven

Brendon

You used to do skate board tricks.

So I sent padded gloves,

Black leather to wrap up your wrists and around your fore arms.

You used to play guitar.

So I got you something electric

V shaped to play loud and hard.

You used to run through the reservoir woods.

So I went bringing you bottles of delicious new wine.

You used to like earl grey tea.

So I sent a porcelain teapot,

Green with creature faces from Ireland.

You used to worship the goddess.

So I gave you a dagger,

Rose wood handle, cow hide sheath –

Aged by hunting blood –

Stained by my own youth.
