Women We Should Know ~ all of them. STOP BEING SILENT

Lost Unto This World

I was once some mother’s darlin’
Some daddy’s little girl
More precious than the ruby
More cherished than the pearl
My heart was full of mercy
And my forehead full of curl
Now I am nothing and am lost unto this world
I am lost unto this world…
They herded me like cattle
Cut me down like corn
Took me from my babies
Before they could be born
You can blame it on the famine
You can blame it on the war
You can blame it on the devil
It don’t matter anymore
I am lost unto this world…
I was tortured in the desert
I was raped out on the piain
I was murdered by the high way
And my cries went up in vain
My blood is on the mountain
My blood is on the sand
My blood runs in the river
That now washes through their hands
I am lost unto this world…
Can I get no witness this unholy tale to teil
Was God the only one there watching
And weeping as l feil
O you among the living
Will you remember me at all
Will you write my name out
With a single finger scrawl
Across a broken window
In some long forgotten wall
That goes stretching out forever
Where the tears of heaven fall
I am lost unto this world…

to thine own self be true

OF THE TWO WITNESSES, HOLD THE PRINCIPAL ONE

In any situation there are two witnesses: other people’s view of you and your own view of yourself. Of those, the principal witness is your own insight. You should not just go along with other people’s opinion of you. The practice of this slogan is always to be true to yourself. This slogan says that of the two witnesses, hold the principal one as the actual, authentic one. That authentic witness is you.

This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.

William Shakespeare  (1564 – 1616)

Finally the last…. from Bella and Shirley by pd lyons

Finally the last….

she came down on him hard

brought her full weight onto his chest

grabbed by the hair his gasping face pulled toward her own

she spit

hauled him to his feet

where he had sense enough to notice my weapon.

she’d shifted around

held him from behind

knife to his throat

making certain he got to see his comrades.

dragged him to the tree

rope she called for

he tried to struggle

she knocked the legs out from him.

we secured him with rope and to that tree.

sitting there in the dirt gagged by a rag from one of the dead men.

I jammed his face with the butt of my weapon before we left.

~

 Leave him.

Let him be a sign  for the rest.

~

we didn’t go far

only into the woods to where we’d stashed our gear.

Shirley slept

immediately

soundly

while I,

exhausted from  bearing witness

unable to escape the running tension of my dreams

dozed in and out

unsure.
